Parking Detours
The City strongly encourages that you take public transportation or car pool on September 24-25. However, if you normally park Downtown, the City has recommended primary parking detours to large surface lots along the periphery of Downtown. These identified lots contain nearly 20,000 parking spaces and are located in the lower Hill District, Uptown, Station Square, the *Strip District, and the North Shore. Numerous small service lots and garages exist around the immediate area of these larger lots.
The Port Authority also operates several “park and ride” lots which provide direct shuttles into Downtown. View a map of the lots and find out which lots are less full than others.
*Commuters are not encouraged to park at the North Shore Stadium lots on Sept. 24 due to the Pirates game.
*If parking at a Strip District lot, please be aware that there will be no walking access from the Strip District lots into Downtown due to the Secret Service’s security perimeter. Commuters must walk into Downtown from the North Side, or take the Port Authority 54C to the North Shore and transfer to a second bus into Downtown.
INBOUND ON THE
PARKWAY WEST
North Shore Stadium Lots
- Continue through
the Fort Pitt Tunnel, onto the Fort Pitt Bridge
- Move to the far
left lane, and take the 279 North ramp to the Fort Duquesne Bridge
- The two left
lanes of the Fort Duquesne Bridge can exit to the North Shore,
where there are parking lots at Heinz Field and PNC Park
Strip District
- Move to the two
far right lanes of the Fort Duquesne Bridge
- Take the exit ramp
to 279 North, and then move to the right lane
- Take the Route 28
exit, once again moving to the right lane
- Take the Chestnut
Street exit
- At the stop sign
at the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto Chestnut Street, and
this will take you to the 16th St Bridge
- Cross the bridge,
and turn right onto Penn Avenue
- Continue one block
to 15th Street
- Turn right on 15th
St, and this will take you to the parking lots on Smallman Street in
the Strip District
INBOUND ON THE
PARWAY EAST
Station Square
- Continue inbound
past the Grant Street exit
- Stay in the middle
lane, and travel onto the Fort Pitt Bridge
- Move to the right
lane and take the Carson Street exit
- Continue onto West
Carson Street to the first traffic light
- This will be West
Station Square Drive, and is the entrance to the parking lots and
garage at Station Square
North Shore Stadium Lots
- Move to the right
lane as you pass the Grant Street exit
- Go onto the Fort
Duquesne Bridge
- This will give you
two options:
- The two left lanes
of the Fort Duquesne Bridge can exit to the North Shore, where there
are parking lots for Heinz Field and PNC Park
Strip District
- Move to the right
lane as you pass the Grant Street exit
- Go onto the Fort
Duquesne Bridge and move to the two far right lanes
- Take the exit ramp
to 279 North, and then move to the right lane
- Take the Route 28

on the right, the Chestnut Street exit
- At the stop sign
at the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto Chestnut Street, and
this will take you to the 16th Street Bridge

PARWAY NORTH
North Shore Stadium Lots
- Take Exit 1B,
which will take you to the stadiums
Station Square
- Continue to the

- Move to the right
lane, and travel to the Fort Pitt Bridge
- Once on the
bridge, move to the right lane, and take the Carson Street exit
- Continue on West
Carson Street to the first traffic light
- This will be West
Station Square Drive, and is the entrance to the parking lots and
garage at Station Square
Mellon Arena
- Take the Veteran’s
Bridge ramp from the inbound Parkway North
- Continue over the
Veteran’s Bridge to the Mellon Arena
Chatham Center Parking Garage
- Take the Veteran’s
Bridge ramp from the inbound Parkway North
- Continue over the
Veteran’s Bridge to the Mellon Arena
- At Washington
Place, turn right and continue to Chatham Center Parking garage
Pittsburgh Parking Authority – Second Avenue
- Take the Veteran’s
Bridge ramp from the inbound Parkway North
- Take the Sixth
Avenue exit at the stop sign, this will be the first block of Ross
Street
- Continue straight
on Ross Street until you come to the intersection of Second Avenue
- Turn left on
Second Avenue
- Pass the 10th
Street Bridge, the parking lot will be on your right hand side
INBOUND ON THE LIBERTY BRIDGE
Station Square
- Make sure that you
will be in the right lane before you enter the liberty Tunnels
- At the end of the
liberty Tunnels, do not continue to the liberty Bridge, turn right
at McArdle Roadway
- At the traffic
light, turn left onto Arlington Avenue
- The next traffic
light is East Carson Street
- Make slight left
onto East Carson Street, where there are four separate entrances to
Station Square
Chatham Center
- Take the liberty
Bridge to Crosstown Boulevard
- There will be an
exit for the Mellon Arena
- At the traffic
light, turn right onto Washington Plaza
- The Chatham Center
Parking garage will be on your right hand side
Pittsburgh Parking Authority – Second Avenue Garage
- Follow the same
directions as the Chatham Center Parking garage
- Drive past the
garage to the first traffic light
- Turn right onto
Fifth Avenue
- Continue onto
Fifth Avenue until you come to the intersection with Ross Street
- Turn left onto
Ross Street
- Continue onto Ross
Street to the intersection with Second Avenue
- Turn left onto
Second Avenue
- Continue onto
Second Avenue until you pass the 10th Street Bridge
- The parking lot
will be on your right hand side
Mellon Arena
- Make sure that you
are in the left lane before you enter the liberty Tunnels
- Take the liberty
Bridge to Crosstown Boulevard
- There will be an
exit for the Mellon Arena
INBOUND ON OHIO RIVER BOULEVARD
Station Square
- Continue to the
Fort Duquesne Bridge
- As you cross the
bridge, move to the right lane
- Continue to the
Fort Pitt Bridge, and once again, move to the right lane, and take
the Carson Street exit
- Continue on West
Carson Street to the first traffic light
- This will be West
Station Square Drive, and is the entrance to the parking lots and
garage at Station Square
Strip District
- Continue to the
ramp for 279 North
- Take the exit ramp
to 279 North, and then move to the right lane
- Take the Route 28
exit, once again moving to the right lane
- Take the next exit

- At the traffic
light, turn right onto Washington Plaza
- The Chatham Center
Parking garage will be on your right hand side
Pittsburgh Parking Authority – Second Avenue Garage
- Follow the same
directions as the Chatham Center Parking garage
- Drive past the
garage to the first traffic light
- Turn right onto
Fifth Avenue
- Continue onto
Fifth Avenue until you come to the intersection with Ross Street
- Turn left onto
Ross Street
- Continue onto Ross
Street to the intersection with Second Avenue
- Turn left onto
Second Avenue
- Continue onto
Second Avenue until you pass the 10th Street Bridge
- The parking lot
